We’ve all had those days. One thing goes wrong with our schedule, and it throws off the rest of the day, and suddenly, we’re late for a dinner date or our kids’ performance. There are things you can do to minimize these days, but before you can become punctual, you must decide it is a priority and be willing to change your habits. Use these tips to regain control of your time:

  1. Get up on time.

Be honest — how many times do you hit the snooze button? Put your alarm clock on the other side of the room and when it goes off, get up. Think about it this way: when your first act of the day is procrastination, how will you be on time for anything the rest of the day?

2. Build extra time into your schedule.

If you have an important client meeting at 1:00, don’t schedule a lunch appointment for noon. What if the restaurant is busier than usual or you are delayed by traffic? Always assume the worst scenario, and schedule your time based on that.

3. Be proactive about tomorrow.

To avoid having to make decisions in the morning, spend some time each evening planning out the next day. Put out your clothes. Ensure your purse or briefcase is near the front door and ready to go. Figure out what you’re going to make for breakfast.
