Do you have issues going to sleep — or staying asleep? There are many causes that can contribute to this such as stress, physical ailments, and being overtired. But don’t worry — there are some things you can do to help promote a better night’s sleep. Here are some tips:

  1. Get the best mattress you can afford.

This one will require some time and research. You need to actually go to the store and test them out. Buying a mattress from the internet based on claims or advertising alone is a recipe for disaster.

Once you decide which mattress is the one for you, see if the store will offer a trial period in case you don’t love it. Keep trying until you find the perfect one for you.

2. Keep your bedroom cool.

I don’t mean frigid, but cooler temperatures can signal your body that it’s time to go to sleep. Experiment to find what temperature allows you to stay asleep the entire night. If you’re too warm and throw off your blanket or sheet, that will affect your sleep pattern. So will being too cold. You can’t get good rest if you’re shivering.

3. Make your bedroom dark.
