Back To School In Person Today

I am sending my kid to school today, and as I’ve mentioned before, I have mixed feelings about it.

On the one hand, I am happy that he is getting out of the house. I am also happy that he will be able to see some of his friends in person.

The school, and district, have taken all of the precautions that they can. I don’t have any doubt that they have done their best to put plans in place to keep the kids, teachers, and staff safe. They are in a very tough situation, and I am pleased with their actions thus far. Also, the numbers of Covid cases where I live have been diminishing, as have the deaths.

But.

Yes, again, there is a but, which is the other hand.

I worry. I worry that my son will get sick. I worry that he’ll bring the virus home and we will get sick. I’m worried about the after-effects of the virus. The lingering lung and breathing issues that we’ve been hearing about.

For now, I will be figuratively holding my breath and literally crossing my fingers that everything goes smoothly — and that no one gets sick.

I have to admit that I’m not very optimistic.
