If you have trouble focusing, chances are you also have trouble prioritizing your work day, tasks, or goals. These techniques will help you prioritize like a pro.

1. Create daily rituals. Keep important commitments front and center by carving out a specific time for them each day. For example, designate 30 minutes when you wake up to check your calendar and to-do list, so you know what’s happening and what you need to focus on. Or decide that you will spend the last hour before bed reading or meditating.

2. Start strong. When you accomplish something early in the day, it creates momentum that will carry throughout your day. Try to do a required task as early as possible, and see how that motivates you to keep plowing through your to-do list.

3. Disconnect for a while. This is a tough one, but it is essential if you’re prone to losing focus. Limit the time you spend making calls or texting, surfing, shopping, posting online, and watching TV. Instead, take a few minutes to rediscover face-to-face communication or go outside and appreciate the beauty of nature.

4. Take breaks. Downtime restores your ability to concentrate. Make sure you have planned them into your day. Even taking 5 or 10 minutes will help.
