I Got My First Hater!
I’m sure you’re wondering why I’m excited about that.
It’s because it means, at least to me, that my work is getting out into the world. I’m having an impact.
I know my content is not for everyone. That’s fine with me; I don’t want it to be. I am interested in helping a specific set of people, and I am confident that if they need to hear what I have to say, they will find me. What I am not interested in is providing a platform for “hit-and-run” negative comments that have no purpose except to agitate.
Here’s what happened: I had posted a modified version of my “Age-Appropriate Chore List” article on Instagram a while ago, as the original was too long for that platform. Someone found it, and apparently took exception to what I had to say, because they made the comment that (and I’m paraphrasing here, because I deleted the comment — I’ll explain why in a minute) chores and housework were the responsibility of the parents and that I needed to stop exploiting the children! The exclamation point was added by the person posting the comment.
I deleted the comment not because I can’t handle someone having a contrary opinion to mine, but because I did have some of my followers contact me privately about the comment and ask if they could respond on my behalf.
