Old Friends, Forgiveness, and Stubbornness

Have you ever drifted apart from a friend? A friend that, for a time, was so important and impactful in your life that you never imagined that you would one day not be a part of each other’s lives?

I have a friend like that.

We met when I was still in high school. She was a few years older than me, but we became instant besties. She was married, with 2 kids.

It didn’t matter. There was a bond we shared that I can’t even describe in words. We spent a lot of time together. I even babysat her kids.

Fast forward several years. She and her family moved away to another state. I went to visit. Then I moved away from home to another state (not to the same one as her). But through an interesting set of circumstances, we wound up living in the same town again.

We reconnected. Everything was great.

Then, life happened, and I needed to move back home.

We kept in touch for a while.

She went through a divorce. Then she met someone new and remarried.

I kept in touch.

She didn’t.

Part of me understood. I represented her past, and she was making a future with her new husband. Plus, not living in the same city anymore, it was a case of…
