Overscheduling is Harmful to Your Health
Here’s what it can do and what to do about it.
We’re all busy, but some people also overschedule themselves. They are trying to pack too much into their day, which can result in feelings of stress and overwhelm. These feelings can lead to health issues, including depression, anxiety, and physical ailments. It can also disrupt your sleep, make you sick, and lead to burnout.
If you’re noticing signs of any of the above, take a look at your current schedule and see where you’re overscheduling yourself. Then, to avoid that, you need to sit down and figure out your priorities.
To do that, ask yourself these questions:
What are the things I MUST do each day?
What are the things that I WANT to do each day?
What are the things that I can let go of?
Use the answers to create a new schedule. Be realistic about how much time you have, and give yourself enough time to finish each task. First add the MUST do things, and then fit in any WANT things from your list. Lastly, leave time for some relaxation.
Evaluate your week on Friday afternoon. How did you do? Are you still overscheduled and stressed? If so, go through the exercise again and refine your schedule further. And please…
