What They are and How to Combat Each One

There are two main types of clutter: physical and mental. They both affect your life, and they both can be hard to combat. Let’s take a look at each of them.

Physical Clutter

Physical clutter is easy to understand. It is things you can see.

It’s the piles of clothing, papers, and dishes that are found around your home or office. It’s also those things you’ve been holding onto for years because they’re sentimental, like knick-knacks, or, my personal favorite (not): “you might use them one day.”

Physical clutter can also be electronic. How may tabs do you have open in your browser right now?

Mental Clutter

Mental clutter isn’t as easy to define. It can be the information overload you experience every day. It can be nagging emotional issues. It can also be your never-ending to-do list, your negative self-talk, relationship demands, bad habits, or old grudges.

This internal congestion is usually rooted in emotions such s fear, regret, worry, guilt, or shame.
