Today I want to talk about to-do lists.

You already know that to-do lists help you stay organized and on track throughout your day. But if your to-do list isn’t organized, it can cause you not to get as much done as you’d like.

Here’s how you can make your to-do list more organized and effective:

  1. Clarify your priorities.

This may take a little time to master if you’re not used to doing it. Figure out what tasks are the most important. It may help to use a number system. Give the most important tasks a 1. Then give the next important tasks the number 2. Go to 5, with all of the 5s being your least important tasks.

Always do the tasks noted with a number 1 before any others.

It may also help to leave yourself notes about your tasks.

For example, if you have a critical task with many steps, write down each thing you need to do, in order, so that when you tackle that task, it won’t seem so overwhelming or complicated. Cross off each step as you do it to help you feel accomplished.
