Today I want to talk about having a game plan.

The basic principle of productivity is having a game plan, which is accomplished by having good time management and organization skills. They are all intertwined.

In other words, a lack of organization and effective time management can be just as destructive as procrastination when accomplishing your goals.

But creating a game plan is not that difficult. Here are the three things you need to do to have an effective game plan:

  1. Identify what, exactly, needs to be done.

For example, say you are assigned a presentation that needs to happen to your management team next week. After you panic (I'm kidding — there's no need to panic — I'm telling you how to handle it right now), you need to figure out what exact steps you need to take to complete the presentation.

Write them down. Break large tasks into smaller, manageable tasks. Get as detailed as possible to ensure you cover all bases and don't forget anything. And as you're doing the tasks, don't be afraid to add other things you think of along the way.
