Today I want to talk about routines and habits, specifically, evening ones that will improve your mornings.
We’ve all had those mornings where nothing seems to go right: we overslept, or we can’t find the shoes we want to wear, or the dog got sick and we have to clean it up when we were already running behind. Top that off with being unable to find your keys on the way out the door, and you’ve already had a bad day before leaving the house.
Here are five things you can do the evening before to ensure that your mornings run more smoothly:
Clean up before you go to bed.
Yes, this can be a huge pain when you’re tired. But if you spend a little time every evening getting things cleaned up and tidied, it will make it easier for you in the morning. For example: if you didn’t do the dishes or clean off the counter, you’ve got a mess to deal with when making breakfast and lunches for the kids. It’s much better to have a clean kitchen to work with.
And remember that you don’t have to do it all yourself. You can involve your family. Assign everyone a room or chore and set a timer for 15 minutes, then challenge them to finish before the timer goes off.
Prepare lunches in advance.
Speaking of preparing lunches, it may help you to do that the evening before too. If you don’t have the time to put the lunches together in the evening, at least spend a few minutes figuring out what the lunches will be so you know what you need to grab in the morning to get everything done quickly.
Another thing you can do is plan out your meals for the week — including lunches, so when you go to the store, you know precisely what you need, and you won’t be running around on Thursday trying to put together a sandwich when you’ve run out of bread.
Pick your outfit.
