Podcast Episode 114 — How to Stay Decluttered
Use these hacks to help.
Today I want to talk about how to stay decluttered.
Although decluttering may seem complicated, it is the easier part of the whole equation. Keeping your home decluttered can be the more difficult part. Here are some decluttering hacks to help you stay that way:
Put it on your calendar.
If you schedule time to declutter daily, it will become part of your routine, and you will habitually tidy up as you go. I’m not talking about hours here; you only need 15 minutes a day to help you control the clutter. Set a timer and allow yourself to be done when it goes off. You’ll be amazed at how much you can get done in 15 minutes.
Make rules about new things coming into the house.
If you make a rule that you must remove an item from the house every time you bring one in, it will help to keep clutter from building up again. For example, if you buy a new pair of shoes, take an old pair and donate or discard them. Or if you buy a new set of dish towels for the kitchen, donate or discard the old ones.
Usually, it’s pretty easy to find things to remove to make space for new things. Still, if getting rid of something makes you uncomfortable, maybe you really don’t want the new item.
