Today I want to talk about social media and how to disconnect from it.
Many people interact with social media on a daily basis. Whether it’s scrolling Facebook to check up on your high school friends, checking Instagram or TikTok for the most recent reel from your favorite influencer, or stalking Twitter for the latest news, almost everyone has some exposure to social media daily. If you’re concerned about your social media consumption, here are a few ways to help you disconnect:
Schedule “offline” time.
Pick a time each day to be offline, and dedicate that time to activities that don’t require you to be in front of a screen. Exercise, read a book, cook something, or work on a hobby or craft — it doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you’re not using your phone, tablet, computer, or TV. It could be in the morning, an hour in the middle of the day, or even a period of time before you go to bed.
Have a “tech-free” room in your home.
Pick a room (or rooms!) where electronics are not allowed. Set up a comfortable spot so you enjoy being there. Keep books, games, or coloring books there for your pleasure. Or, turn it into a meditation room or a place to…
