This week I’m going to focus on how to tame your inbox. If you’re like me, you get A LOT of emails, and they are a pain to sort through. It’s easy to avoid going through them, even though you know it needs to be done. And worse, important emails can sometimes get lost in the shuffle.
Here’s what you can do:
- Unsubscribe from email lists that don’t serve you anymore. Are you still getting Baby Center emails even though you have a teenager? Are you still getting emails from stores that you don’t shop at anymore? What about online MLM retailers like 31 Gifts or DoTerra? You can click “unsubscribe” at the bottom of each email — or you can go to unroll.me to see a list of every email subscription list you’re on. You can unsubscribe from whichever ones you wish.
- Create folders in your email program. Yahoo calls them folders, and Gmail calls them labels. You can Google the instructions for your specific email platform. It’s very easy to do.
- Set up filters so emails go directly to those folders you created. For example, you can set up a filter that says if the sender contains “Michaels” or “Famous Footwear,” move the email to the “sales” folder. Or you could set up one that says if the sender contains “Red Lobster,” move the email to the “restaurants” folder. Or you could set one up that…
