Podcast Episode 24 — Ten Essential Road Trip Tips

Do you take road trips? We used to take a lot of them when the kid was younger. Now that we can’t miss school, we tend to fly more. But I’ve always loved road trips.
Here are some tips to make your road trips smoother and more fun:
- Check your vehicle. Make sure that your tires are in good condition and have the appropriate air pressure, and check to make sure your spare tire is in good shape too. Look under the hood and check to make sure that all of your fluids are topped off. Clean the windshield before you go, and if you’re going to be traveling somewhere that it rains a lot, you might want to consider putting a coat of Rain-X (or something similar) on the windshield.
- Plan your route. This is especially important if you’ve never taken this particular trip before. Decide how long you want to drive each day and where you’ll stop.
- Bring snacks and drinks. I’m sure this is a no-brainer, but it’s much cheaper to bring your own snacks and drinks than to grab something every time you need to stop to use the restroom. Make sure you have a good variety to combat what I used to call “snack boredom.” That’s when the kids (or even you) get bored with the snack choices and don’t want any of them.
