You’ve planned out your meal. You have all the ingredients. You want to eat at 6:30, and you crack open your cookbook to get started.

The first thing you realize is that your main dish and your side dish have different cook times.

The second thing you realize is that they also have different cook temperatures.

WHAT?

Don’t panic. I’ve got you covered. There is a way to make sure that everything gets cooked at the same temperature and comes out at the same time. It just takes some simple math.

First, you’ll need to find the percentage difference in the temperature and then multiply it by the length of time.

For example, if you want to change something from 400°F to 350°F, you need to divide the start temperature by the end temperature (400/350). The answer is 1.14.

Now multiply that number by the time required to cook the dish (for this example, let’s use 30 minutes), and you get 34.2. This means that if you want to cook a dish at 350°F instead of 400°F, you’ll need to cook it for 34 minutes instead of 30.

You’ll also need to add in a few minutes as a safety cushion. If you’re increasing temperature, check the food 3–4…
