Did you know that when you create too many things to do, you end up getting less done? Did you also know that scheduling more breaks can make you more productive?

Yes, that sounds counterintuitive. How can taking more breaks make you get more done? Research shows that giving yourself time to unwind allows you to get your work done faster. In other words, scheduling breaks into your workday can be crucial for your success.

Breaks also provide other benefits, including:

  • Preventing burnout
  • Reducing stress
  • Supporting creativity
  • Improving mental health and happiness
  • Creating a proper work/life balance

Tips for scheduling breaks:

  1. Schedule Short 5 to 15 Minute Breaks

Give yourself a short break every 75 to 90 minutes, and don’t permit yourself to skip the break. Research shows that short burst breaks are best as they are just long enough to allow you to unwind but not long enough to allow you to completely lose focus and motivation.
