Podcast Episode 75 — Nope: Productivity and Being Busy Are Not the Same Thing
Today I want to talk about the difference between being productive and being busy.
The main idea of productivity is to work smarter, not harder. Just because you are active, working hard, and doing things does not mean you have used your time wisely enough to be productive.
Unfortunately, there is a pervasive myth that equates being “busy” to being highly productive, and not being “busy” to being lazy.
This is why someone who takes the rest of the day off after lunch may be perceived as lazy (they’re not busy), when in reality, they are able to take off because they got all of their work for the day completed in the morning (they were productive).
This is also why someone can say that they were doing things all day and yet they have nothing to show for it at the end of the day (they were busy but not productive).
Here are a few tips that many successful people follow to be more productive and less busy each day:
Remove Any and All Distractions
When it is time to work, take responsibility and remove the distractions you know will disrupt you.
- Turn off distracting music.
- Don’t work where people are walking around…
