Today I want to talk about how saying no can help you be more productive.

Many people have trouble saying no. Sometimes it is because they don’t want to disappoint the person who is asking. Sometimes it’s because they have a fear of conflict or confrontation.

I’m no exception to this. Well, I used to not be the exception. I used to say yes to everyone who asked me for help with something. But once I realized how valuable my time was to me, it gave me the confidence to begin to say no to people — and it changed my life.

Think about requests this way: First and foremost, they are asking for your time. And your ability, but that is secondary. Are you willing to part with your valuable time, especially when you are already stretched thin with work and family obligations?

Here are some things to think about when deciding to give your time to someone else:

Think of yourself and your goals.

Helping people is great for your health and growth, but it is not always a valuable use of your time, especially when trying to reach your goals. Remember, you’re not selfish to take care of yourself or your needs first. You are the only one who can provide…
