Here we are again. It’s six weeks into the new semester, and we’re finishing up the last week (for now) of fully-remote instruction. The school district decided to resume the hybrid, two-day-per-week schedule starting on Monday.

We have decided to let the kid go back in person.

It wasn’t an easy decision.

I know the school district and his school are doing everything they’re supposed to in order to keep the kids as safe as they can. That’s in the plus column. I also know that my kid thrives in the school environment, and he is missing his friends. Socially, it’s a no-brainer to have him go back. And, the metrics where we live appear to be going in the right direction as far as cases and deaths from the virus.

But.

There is still that lingering worry that he’ll catch the virus and bring it home. I don’t want any of us to experience that. And, he’s finally doing really well with getting all of his assignments done, done well, and turned in on time. That had been an issue last semester when he was home. Something clicked at the beginning of this year, though, and he finally “got” the time-management skills that I’ve been teaching him all along. I do have a worry that changing the routine by going back in person 2 days per week will affect that.
