Taking Time For Yourself
Until recently, I struggled with this. A lot. I find that many women do.
I decided that as a birthday present to myself, I would devote time to me every day. I have been successful so far. Almost every morning, when I get up, I exercise first thing. I’m the kind of person that if I don’t do it right away, I won’t do it, so early morning it is. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not doing an hour of aerobics or running 3 miles every day. I try to do a dance workout 3 or 4 times per week, and then I bounce on my mini-trampoline for at least 10 minutes the other days. I actually try to bounce every day, although some days I don’t get that done. I’m trying to give myself a break when that happens.
I’m looking forward to when it cools off here so that I can go outside without spontaneously combusting. I enjoy taking walks when I’m not afraid of dying, and I’ll be happy to change things up and add walking into my exercise routine.
I also have been taking time each day to write down 3 things I’m grateful for. Sometimes that’s really easy. Other times I write things like “I woke up today” or “My cat.” It’s a process.
I’ve been meditating too. I use guided meditations; I’m not good on my own. When I do it by myself I wind up either falling asleep or making lists in my head. Neither are productive. The guided ones work for me, and I actually do feel better when I’m finished.
We’ll see how long I can keep this up. I really would like to make these changes permanent, but I am skeptical that I will follow through in the long term. Cross your fingers for me.
What do you for yourself? Do you do it every day or just sometimes? Send an email to me at lisa@lisaseley.com and let me know.
