Research shows that music can provide many benefits to your brain and overall health. It can increase your blood flow, which may make it easier to concentrate and relax. Increased blood flow protects your brain from memory loss, allows you to de-stress, and reduces inflammation that can damage your body’s healthy cells over time.

Music may also impact your productivity by:

  • Boosting your performance and accuracy
  • Improving your focus, motivation, and inspiration
  • Releasing dopamine, which can improve your mood
  • Stimulating your brain and improving your energy levels

Although music can be incredibly beneficial, one must make smart choices or it can have a detrimental effect instead.

Here are some tips to keep in mind when playing music when working:

Choose the Right Music and be Mindful of Your Tasks

Find the music that is right for you and the work you are doing. If the tempo is wrong for your needs, you can make mistakes. If the song is too slow, you can slow down or fall asleep; if it’s too fast, you may start thinking more about the music than your tasks at hand. You must pay attention to your thoughts and feelings for the music to work to your advantage.
