Training Update

Back in November, I told you that I had signed up for some races in the Spring. The last week in March, specifically. I am going to do a 5k, a 10k, and a 10-mile race, all within 4 days.

I have now completed 8 weeks of training. In that time, I have:

  • increased my pace (which, admittedly, was sloth-like) by over 4 minutes per mile
  • increased my interval time from 5 seconds running/55 seconds walking to 15 seconds running/45 seconds walking — and even sometimes I have been able to do 20/40 and 30/30
  • have comfortably finished two 5-mile training runs — meaning that I finished the entire distance without much difficulty, which gives me confidence that I will be able to complete my 10-mile goal
  • not yet experienced the “runner’s high”
  • had to literally have conversations with myself in my head (they’re actually hilarious, later) on certain days about actually going to the gym
  • become used to exercising again
  • actually looked forward to exercising on occasion (who the heck am I?)
  • realized that even though I don’t think of myself as a “real” runner, I actually am — I am getting it done, no matter what the pace

So there you have it. I’m making progress, and I’m very proud of how far I’ve come. I know…
