Training Update — End of Week 18

Here’s How it’s Going

I’ve almost completed 18 weeks of training. My races are in 2 weeks. I have worked hard to get to this point. There have been many days where I said “I don’t want to go to the gym.”

But I went anyway. And it sucked. But I did it, because I issued the challenge to myself to do these races.

I have no idea if I’m going to be able to finish the big race in time. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not worried about the 5k and the 10k. It’s the 10-miler that has me freaked out.

It’s not the distance. I have the stamina and endurance to get there. It’s the speed. I’m slow. But I’m going to give it my all, do my best, and have a good time.

Tomorrow is the big training distance. Eleven miles. That will be the farthest I’ve ever gone at one time.

Two weeks ago, I did 9.5. Another mile and a half shouldn’t be that big of a deal.

But it is a big deal. At least mentally.

I’m questioning whether or not I can do it.

Yes. I am aware that is my negative self-talk and my self-doubt creeping in. They’re pernicious. Nevertheless, they’re there.

But.
