Trip Cancelled

I was supposed to go on a girls’ trip in November. We were going to Walt Disney World to do the Wine & Dine races. Well, all but one of us were racing, and everyone who was racing but me was doing the 10k AND the half marathon. I was registered to do the 10k. I know my limitations.

And then, Covid.

First, runDisney changed the races to virtual races. We decided to not do the virtual races, but that we would still try to travel so that we could see each other and have a non-race vacation. Then, for various reasons, a couple of the girls had to drop out. I was still hopeful that I would get to go. I was taking a wait-and-see approach. I figured that I would make my final decision around mid-October, based upon what was going on in the world.

I got an email two days ago. My flights had been changed. Now, instead of arriving around 3pm, I would be arriving after midnight. That wasn’t the worst part, though. I was willing to try to find other flights, but due to Covid, they have cancelled so many flights and restricted the seats on the flights that they do have, I was unable to find alternatives that would work.

We decided as a group to finally call it off and shoot for next year some time. And although I’m sad, at least I have something to look forward to next year.

And something to plan.
