What Are Your Strengths?
Other than during a job interview, have you ever thought about what you’re good at?
I’m good at organizing. I refer to it as my superpower.
I was always organized growing up. I used to organize my toys.
Yeah, think about that one for a minute. Not usual behavior for a kid, for sure, but there it was. I didn’t think about it. It was just something I did. It felt “right” to me.
It wasn’t until I was in college that it became clear to me that everyone wasn’t this way. In my sophomore year, after the first day of classes, I sat down with my calendar and my syllabus for each class. I put all the assignments, projects, and deadlines on my calendar. My roommate at the time came in and asked me what I was doing. I told her. Here’s the conversation that followed:
Her, confused: “You’re doing what?”
Me, repeating what I’d already told her: “I’m putting the due dates for the assignments and projects on my calendar. Also when the tests are.”
Her: “Why?”
Me, confused as to why she was questioning me: “Um, so I know when I need to study for my tests and how long I have to do each project. I can look at my calendar and work backwards from a due date to break up the project. Then I can work on it a little at a time and ensure that I have…
