This book was recommended to me by a friend, and I really enjoyed it. It’s More Than A Woman by Caitlin Moran.

Here’s an excerpt from the blurb of the book:

…middle-aged women still have some nagging, unanswered questions: Can feminists have Botox? Why isn’t there such a thing as “Mum Bod”? Why do hangovers suddenly hurt so much? Is the camel-toe the new erogenous zone? Why do all your clothes suddenly hate you? Has feminism gone too far? Will your To Do List ever end? And WHO’S LOOKING AFTER THE CHILDREN?

The book is a series of, for lack of a better word, essays. At the beginning of the book they are pretty hilarious. I found myself full-belly laughing out loud at several of them. Later in the book, she delves into some serious topics, and it’s absolutely heart-wrenching when she talks about her daughter’s eating disorder and the corresponding feelings of being a parent to a child that’s going through that.

I also want to highlight that she has a fascinating take on feminism and the idea of “But what about the men?” Her premise that it’s a question that feminism should be asking is spot on, and I found her entire take on the subject absolutely captivating and worthy of discussion.

I will say this: If you’re under 40, you might want to give this one a pass. Although very entertaining, some of the things will not be relatable if you haven’t experienced them. But if you’re, as the author calls it, “middle-aged”, or even older, and you’re looking for a book that will make you both laugh and think, check it out.
