Writing vs. Typing

Which do you prefer?

I love typing. I type around 100 words per minute so most of the time I can just about keep up with the thoughts in my head. If I have to make a note of something and I’m near my laptop, I’ll just type it.

But……

I find if I’m trying to learn something, writing works better. I read somewhere that there is a mind-body connection with writing something down. Something about the act of writing wires it into your brain better than if you’re typing.

Here’s how I combine the two. Every time I watch a webinar, I take hand-written notes. Then, when I’m done, I type the notes into a document I can save to review later. The writing reinforces the learning, and the typing is just going over the information a second time. Plus, now I have a handy reference tool that doesn’t take up physical space because it’s on my computer. Then I shred the hand-written notes.

So, which do you prefer? Or do you do both?
